    This is Janet Liang.

She has until April to locate a donor for a bone marrow transplant.

On August 24, 2009, Janet Liang was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia while finishing her bachelor’s degree as an International Development Studies major and Education minor. A loving and dedicated friend to many who knew her at UCLA, she was a healthy, hardworking, and extremely passionate student who fell victim to this blood cancer at only 22-years old. Rushed to the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center immediately after her diagnosis, she has just recently completed the induction phase of her chemotherapy treatment, which is often the most difficult for patients to endure. Now she is faced with the daunting task of searching for an unrelated bone marrow donor after doctors revealed that her younger brother and only sibling is not her match.

Janet wants to be able to fulfill her dreams of becoming a full-time teacher. She is deeply committed to addressing social justice issues in multicultural education and bridging the educational achievement gap transparent in today’s schools. However, she is hilarious at unexpected moments: this girl is not serious as she seems and relishes in the small joys of life with her contagious laughter. A natural humanitarian at heart who aspires to also work in relief efforts in the developing world, she constantly worries and looks after others before thinking about herself. But now, she is in dire need of YOUR help to save her life and other patients as well.

I ask for all those able to do this, especially those of Asian heritage - to please, please register, and increase the chances of Janet and her family locating a possible donor. She is a bright, beautiful young woman, and I’d hate to see such a promising life end so prematurely. Thank for your time.
